Process and scope
1.Identify the component
We select a location that represents the condition and confirm removal of a small piece is acceptable.
2.Sample removal
A small portion is cut or lifted and sealed, with the location documented and photographed.
3.Handling record
Samples are logged and transported to the laboratory with a documented handling record.
4.Analysis report
The laboratory reports its findings for the material, which we explain against the site observations.
Preparation and access
- Agree in advance which materials may be sampled, since collection leaves a small opening or void
- Get owner or manager permission where the property is not yours
- Keep the area dry until collection
Limitations
- Collection is minor but destructive by nature; a small piece of material is removed
- Results apply to the sampled component and location only
- We do not remove, replace or repair the material afterwards

How big is the sample?
Small, typically a few square inches or a pinch of loose material. We keep it to what the laboratory needs and show you where it came from.
Will it leave a hole?
There may be a small void or cut where the sample was taken. We confirm that is acceptable before collecting.
Is this needed if surfaces were already tested?
Only when the question is whether the material itself is affected through its depth, which a surface sample cannot answer.
